The Mughal Gardens of Srinagar are a living legacy of Kashmir’s royal past, reflecting the grandeur, symmetry, and refined taste of the Mughal era. Set along the foothills of the Zabarwan Range and overlooking Dal Lake, these gardens are among the most beautiful formal gardens in India.

The most famous among them are Shalimar Bagh, Nishat Bagh, and Chashme Shahi—each with its own charm yet united by the classic Mughal design of terraced lawns, flowing water channels, fountains, and panoramic views. Built during the reign of Emperor Jahangir and later expanded by Shah Jahan, these gardens were designed as places of leisure, reflection, and romance.

Shalimar Bagh, once a royal garden for Mughal emperors and queens, is known for its grand terraces and historical pavilions. Nishat Bagh, the “Garden of Joy,” offers one of the finest views of Dal Lake, with its cascading terraces descending gracefully toward the water. Chashme Shahi, smaller yet elegant, is famous for its natural spring believed to have medicinal properties.

In spring and summer, the gardens burst into life with blooming flowers, chinar trees, and manicured lawns. Autumn transforms them into a palette of gold and amber, making them a favorite for photographers and nature lovers.

The Mughal Gardens are more than tourist attractions—they are expressions of harmony between nature and design. Walking through them feels like stepping into a slower, more graceful time, where beauty was meant to be experienced calmly and completely.
